While reading the St. Paul Pioneer Press, I ran across an ad that said “Win a Free Virtual Reality Makeover!” In this ad was a picture of a lady with a before picture of a very balding head and an after picture with her new “Virtual Reality Makeover.” I thought to myself, “Wow, what a difference.”

I am not bald, but I have very fine, thin hair on the top of my head and on my sides most of my life. I was very curious about this procedure and thought I would give a call to the phone number listed in the ad. I was scheduled to come in for an interview in the Bloomington, Minnesota office the following week. I kept hoping I would be a good candidate for one of the free hair makeover spots. I went to my appointment with mixed feelings. Excitement mostly, but also with many questions of how it actually worked. What they had to do. The most important question being, how it would look and what the cost of maintenance would be.

When I was informed that I was a good candidate and that I was going to receive this at no cost to me, I was ecstatic. Visions of what I would look like with hair, thicker hair was all I could think about. When the interviewer told me of the various openings for the “Virtual Reality Makeover,” I think it took me all of two seconds to blurt out, “as soon as possible.” I was scheduled to have my hair makeover in the St. Paul office. Given a map of how to get there, I was out the door and on my way home. I felt I had just won the greatest prize of all. I was soon going to have thick hair that would be identical to my own color. It was going to be real human hair, not some fake looking synthetic blend. When the day came for me to go and have my hair makeover, I was so excited, I left early and made it there an hour before my appointment time. Finally, over walked Karen and said hello to me and told me that Melissa would be doing my “Virtual Reality Makeover.”

I was taken back into the salon room. There, I received the full explanation of what the procedure entailed and how they would design the hair makeover just for me and my needs. Melissa and Karen also introduced me to the owner of the hair restoration salons, Vern. Melissa asked me if I was ready and I said, “Let’s go for it!” A short time later, it was all said and done, including my new cut and style. I had been turned away from the mirror in the beginning, then, turned to face the mirror for the first time.
It was awesome! I couldn’t stop looking in the mirror. It sounds corny, but I hadn’t felt hair on my forehead before. This was a new sensation to me. I kept looking in the mirror and thought, “Man, I can’t believe it’s me!” I have always had an idea what I might look like, had I been born with thick hair. This was immediate gratification, but it felt like it was in an instant. I went from fine, thin, limp hair to this thick gorgeous mane.

Vern came into the room. I couldn’t help myself. I jumped up from my chair and gave him a big bear hug. I said, “I don’t know what ever made you decide to do this for a living, but thank God for you. I just love it. I can’t believe that’s me. It is so natural looking and such a perfect match.”

I told Vern that I know so many women who have such thin hair like me. They would love this. I told Melissa I felt she did a fantastic job. What’s really cool is that I can shampoo my hair, shower and swim with no worry. I will go in for regular maintenance, just like you would go to get your acrylic nails filled every four weeks or so.

I was invited to come to the Bloomington office the next day. They wanted to make sure I liked my new hair and cut and that everything was to my satisfaction. I felt I was treated with royal pampering and given the greatest moral booster I could ever receive. I’ll really be able to hold my head up high. I won’t even mind my picture being taken now.

Just a quick note to say thank you! Over the past several years, I have been contemplating the possibility of changing my appearance by improving my hair. I considered several options and did a considerable amount of research. I am in a very public job and was highly skeptical that whatever I did must be very natural.

After meeting you and placing my trust in you, I can honestly say this has been one of the “best” decisions I have ever made in my life. Once I decided to make over my appearance, everything seemed to fall into place. I removed a beard, lost nearly 50 pounds and added a full head of hair – very radical changes, to say the least.

I cannot tell you how much better I feel about myself. I have always been a confident person and in leadership positions. I seemed to forget how much one’s personal appearance can impact day to day interactions. After these simple changes, many have said I look 10 to 15 years younger. Today I am very proud of my new appearance and have a renewed feeling of self confidence.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” As I would gaze at myself in the mirror, it was becoming clear that the pattern of baldness that was passed down in my family has now become apparent in me. I had tried various hairstyles and even purchased wigs, as my mother had done before me. But none of them looked natural. So it was time for me to investigate other techniques.

There was a good deal of embarrassment connected to this issue. I was to find that, once the search had begun, my self esteem had been severely affected by thinning hair. The embarrassment kept me from talking about this with friends. Perhaps I felt it would show how vain I was. Silently, the search was begun.
The first step was to look through the yellow pages.  Being completely ignorant of the hair replacement process, I randomly chose three names and set out on my investigation.

The first stop was Hair for Life. The presentation was thorough and professional, detailing the steps and cost and pictures of before and after. Though I welcomed the information, what came through to me most was the attitude of the owner, Vern Cole. It was clear that he was a highly trained professional who was passionate about what he could bring into people’s lives. He came from an attitude of serving the needs of people like me who suffered a loss of self esteem from thinning hair. I threw away the other two names and made an appointment for the service.

I have enjoyed hair replacement for six months and have been overjoyed with the results. My appearance certainly changed as has my self concept. Within a couple of days, I no longer noticed that I had a hair system. It was so natural and the comfort level was almost immediate. Friends would compliment me on my new youthful appearance and my self esteem was renewed.

Service has been impeccable at Hair for Life. And their pure enjoyment at what they bring into peoples’ lives makes each visit a pleasure. I highly recommend this organization where integrity and professional service are the foundation for their services.
